Martial Artists live by values:
The three we live by at Batson Freestyle MMA are the three “R’s:”
1. Respect for God
2. Respect for Others
3. Respect for Yourself
The main one of these three values extends to a single principle: “Respect for God.” When we have respect for God we will respect others and ourselves by acknowledging that we have been made in His image.
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – (Genesis 1:27, NIV)
The main way mankind can respect God is for each individual to make a decision to say “yes” or “no” to God’s son Jesus Christ. God will respect your decision.
“How Does Someone Say ‘Yes’ to God?”
This is where the three “R’s” of a martial artist lead to the four “R’s” of the Gospel (good news) that God teaches us through His word (Holy Bible).
The four “R’s” of the Gospel in the Bible Are:
1. Recognize your need for God
In Genesis 3, “Adam and Eve disobeyed God [sinned] and broke their relationship with God. We all have sinned as well. Romans 3:23, “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Because God is just, He must punish sin (the breaking of His laws). Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” We all deserve death for our sin, which is eternal separation from God in Hell. But God has provided forgiveness for our sins through sending Jesus Christ.
“How Do We Recognize that We Are Forgiven?”
2. Repentance: (this word means a change of mind and direction): so you are walking one way away from God and now you have completely changed the direction and are now walking with God (Mark 1:15).
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” – (Mark 1:15, NIV)
“I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” – (Luke 13:3, NIV)
Admit your sins to God and He will forgive you.
“If we confess our sin to God, He is faithful to forgive us of our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – (1 John 1:9, NIV)
3. Receive: Believe and receive what God did in Jesus Christ, who paid our sin debt by his death on the cross and who rose from the dead three days later.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” – (John 1:12, NIV)
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” – (John 3:16-17, NIV)
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” – (Romans 10:9-10, NIV)
“for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'” – (Romans 13, NIV)
Call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ right now through a prayer and mean it in your heart, and God will forgive you of your sins and give you the assurance of heaven, and come into your life right now.
Pray something like this:
Dear God, I recognize that I am a sinner and have broken your laws. I know I deserve to be justly punished for my sins. I ask now that you forgive me of my sin. Thank you for Jesus Christ, who was sinless. He died for my sins on the cross, thus paying my debt. Thank you God for raising Him from the dead three days later. I put my complete trust in you now. I ask that you come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for hearing my prayer and for forgiving my sin. Thank you for giving me a place in heaven when I die and for being in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
4. Renewed: By the authority of God through the Holy Bible, if you said this prayer and meant it in your heart, then God has heard you. He has forgiven your sins and assures you of heaven. He is coming into your life right now. You now have a new life in Jesus Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)
